Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Blame your KOs not your Supervisor

I continue to be amazed at the poor quality of KO feedback that people submit and the fear of submitting it in writing. Everyone complains about management not having courage of conviction but the workforce can’t even give honest or helpful feedback to each other.

Managers in ExxonMobil don’t develop people. They are the employees of their bosses.

My favorite part of KOs is that I can do a better job writing development goals than the employee’s supervisor. I swear, why do we have so many layers of management in this company? They’re supposed to be for career development - but they don’t even know how to do that.
To summarize - managers don’t know how to develop people and are COMPLETELY a useless for anything technical. I don’t understand what we do to people in the company. We hire people who get the highest grades and appear to work hard… how do managers get d-mber the longer they’re with the company? Can we benchmark that? BCG? McKinsey? Can you guys help with that?

I am amaze there are people that think KOs make a difference in ranking, instead of having senior management like you.
