I am actively looking for a new job, but until I get it I have to stay in this misery for a while. Everyone has to make the best of their situation and so I wonder what is the best way to deal with a bad job until you get a better offer?

Smells like MSKs dispatcher chair...
I was told to get fired for attendance. Say you are on assigned days, just lay off once every 2 weeks on a Monday one week for 8 points then 2 weeks later on a Saturday for 8 points a week later on Thursday 8 points then wait 3 weeks lay of Monday for 8 more and you are at 32 points. Then don’t sign attendance 1st offense and repeat the next two months and get canned for attendance. You will probably get a nice long vacation and get your job back from what we’re seeing in my area. Then you will have a chance to come back if you change your mind. It’s worth a shot IMO. Good luck.

Dont give a 2 week notice ! They'll walk you out before then.
Work the way the old timers used to work. Go slow and steady, never hurry, dont get mad, and never argue. Last thing, dont give notice. The last day you want or need to work, just quit on that day. If you try to be honorable and give 2 weeks notice, UP will immediately consider you persona non grata and have you escorted off the property faster than any criminal trespasser ever was.
It smells like dead fish in here.
