So far I've only been able to get a lot of excuses for why I haven't been promoted here. Chances that someone will be promoted here through their hard work and commitment alone seems to be zero?
At this point I can only say I regret putting in so much effort. While I wasted my time here, some of my colleagues went to other companies and got promoted there in a very short time.

im sort of depressed I work an entry level job and Its looking like ill never get promoted. I'm just not a person who can kiss a-s. its simply not in me.
tired of people saying being a minority or being a woman gets you a promotion. it doesn't. only thing that gets you a promotion is sucking up to the boss and the ability to sell yourself better than a used car salesman
You should probably put that on your anonymous eNPS survey and talk about all the reasons you feel you are being overlooked, but fail to mention that you barely meet your performance metrics
I was at ATT for 18 years. Basically got 2 promotions during that time. One was because I interviewed and took a new position. This was a nightmare. My existing Mgr tried to block me even though he had no grounds. 2 HR reps had to get involved in the end to get it to go thru.
Second one I lobbied my Mgr. It would have been easier if I got all my teeth pulled. And he wasn’t a bad guy. Today I’ve moved into greener pastures. Wish I had done it 5 years earlier. I bounce on here occasionally for entertainment purposes.
Dont believe that woke cr-p. You want to get promoted "socialize" with higher ups go to bars after work, talk about anything and then go home and do it all over again. There is your formula. Forget the hard work it's all about socializing.
Say team, team, team very often. Promotion soon. Later…
T is a woke corporation. Nothing else matters. Remember your success is not as important as equity…
- Be a minority. +3
- Be LGBTBBQWTF. +3
- Be a Woman. +2
- Suck up. +2
- Gossip to the boss. +1
- Use buzz words like WFH, collaborate, team, leaders, vision etc. +1
- Do all the SJW BS and virtual signaling exercises. +1
Nothing else matters.
Get to 8 points at least.
Notify Stankey that you want him to mentor you. This will guarantee a promotion.
Resign and go to IBM, they will promote you, assuming you're qualified.
You are correct...hard work and commitment will not get you promoted at AT&T, or any other large company. To be noticed and ultimately promoted, you need three things: 1) skills/experience, 2) capacity to do more, 3) a network. What do I mean by "a network"? You need a group of people, preferably outside of your business unit and at a higher level, who will bring your name up when you're not in the room. It takes time and energy to build a network of "promoters", but it's well worth it.
Or you can move to a smaller company where the same rules apply, but it just doesn't take as much time to build. Good luck!
I have been at AT&T for quite some time. I have seen many promotions I considered deserving. I have also seen many deserving folks not get promoted. Some I learned did not care about promotion. So this is my advice:
If you do want a promotion - talk to your boss or one level above and express that desire explicitly. In case the feedback is that you are not ready yet, ask what you need to do to get one. This will create a 2-sided implicit pact. Write it in your A&D.
This does not guarantee that you would get one. But it will inform you what your chances are with the current team. Know that often your supervisor does not have the power to grant a promotion, but they can be your advocate. Also, your asking for a promotion is viewed as a positive sign that you are motivated and willing to commit more. And if a position opens up in another team, your supervisor will be helpful in recommending you to the new team.
Basically- ask for it, be optimistic, keep a positive attitude, and even if it does not work out in this group you will benefit from the experience.
3 things will get you promoted: 1. Minority 2. Relative/friend in high places 3. Kiss rear end. Best choiceis leave this cesspool
There are no merit promotions. Understand? Only who you know or who you bl….
Never heard why you should be promoted
Very little chance if you are not good b*t kisser. I see bosses like them very much. On the other side the kissers can’t do anything else beside kissing so they master their skills.
This place is bizarro world. Nothing but nepotism and favoritism. Talent and ability count for nothing in this swamp, the outside is much much better
Other companies will promote you faster.
These ladder-climbing narcissists.
Never can get enuff of dat.
How long have been been with AT&T?
You made a choice. If unhappy, move on.
