Has to be less than 10% right? Only upside is the lack of state income tax and lower COL. Not worth it for many to uproot their families for what most will see as a lower quality of life (weather, outdoor options, nearby places for day trips, etc.).

Here’s an idea: quit Chevron and you can live wherever you want, possibly remote too. So many options out there. Wake up and smell the external opportunities amd finally be free of the golden handcuffs, you brainwashed lazy people.
Why avoid houston all costs ?? While I’m not some danville baller in Houston I can get decent size home and what appears be good quality of life. Seems kind of attractive for us lower level PSG who already got a sucky commute and are barely surviving in CA. Not all of us own multi million dollar homes in Danville and SR
What’s downsides houston aside from the weather
If Texas don’t suit you simply select an overseas location at the next PDC. If you family don’t come along you can afford to set them up wherever they like in the US, Europe, even Canada.
Avoid Houston at all ccosts5. You'll regret moving here.
- Most of the management have been moving every 2 years of their careers, one more move is no big deal. 2) Support staff probably won't want to move, will easily move into another job.
In past scenarios 90% moved to Texas rather than quit. Some kept houses in California and moved back later or at retirement. Some even kept family in California and commuted. Once you leave the fabulous CA housing market, difficult to get back in. Median home price in SR is $2 million, Danville almost $3 million.
Have to love CVX. If you're not happy in the current position, just wait for some form of re-org. Big sh-t rolls downhill and displaces the smaller sh-t in ways that you won't see coming. Trust and have faith in CVX.
You gotta ask yourself at least 3 things:
- If you are really working 5 days a week 40 hours of day time, how much of weather, outdoor, etc plays in your happiness and quality of life (for some still weekends and evenings makes a big difference but not for many). Still you have some other benefits in Houston if access to 2 airports with many flights to Latin America and elsewhere is something to consider as well as many food and cultural options.
- It is not just about you but the family and their situation, not everyone can move regardless of location pros or con.
- Life is short, happiness is not always come on how much money you make/save/lose or the quality of life in a specific location. Your social and family network commute time, happiness of family all play a big role as well. Are you going g to be happier moving or not?
Yeah. Most of upstream will move. Downstream may not change much.
I think a lot of it depends on what the leadership of your organization does. If they all move, then you’re just kind of out to pasture of irrelevance waiting to be laid off. If a lot of them stick around, then you’re probably OK to stay.
