Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Raises or promotions? Anyone? Bueller?

Email originally said they’d come the first week of April and now that has passed. Not that anyone but the already very well paid people in the top ranks expect anything but wondering if anyone has been informed of s raise or promotion? Thx

I got a 14% raise in Pune, India. SAS is struggling with heavy attrition in the Pune center. They mass promoted everyone.

A merit raise of 3% to 4% is considered very generous at SAS — even if you exceeded your objectives. For promotions (which were nearly impossible to get and in my case always required stringent negotiation), 10% was the standard for most of my long SAS career. A true culture of excellence would provide many opportunities for professional/technical growth leading to better products, higher revenue and resulting compensation, including equity. This would enable SAS to moderate the size of their workforce in favor of fewer, yet high-quality, highly productive employees.

Instead we had the plantation model. A very few high ranking Directors, VPs, etc. got paid well, did the vast majority of traveling/conferences, and I believe were rewarded for keeping salaries as low as possible among the rank and file.

So I guess by now you have all heard whether you got anything.

Small this year, so very small. 3%, 4%? Very discouraging. Every time my I hope and my coworkers hope SAS will do better for those of us who have stayed, I am disappointed all over again.

We have heard of people in other groups being promoted but very few people we know have been. As usual mostly people who did not deserve it.

I’ve heard upward adjustments were made earlier in 2022 to retain some of the “most valued” R&D employees. Salary levels and bonus amounts have always been shrouded in mystery at SAS.
