How to go about asking for raise?

My peers are leaving, getting counteroffers, but still leaving. How can I get the raise they would have got with the counteroffer?

I, personally, would never accept a counter-offer if I have given notice. (1) I've given my word to the new company and I won't go back on my word. (2) if I accepted a counter-offer, it'll look like I strong-armed the company and I don't want that coming back to bite me. (3) Money probably wasn't the main reason I went looking, anyway. Is it yours?

First of all, the time for a company to pretend to appreciate you more than they were (but never!) did is NOT during a counteroffer discussion.

Second, go to salary.com and review the salary range for your position. If you're not in the mid to high end of that range, go to your manager and have a frank (no pun intended) discussion about the compensation gap you'd like to close. Be specific about the type of increase you want. What's the magic number within the salary range that would make it a tad more palatable for you to stick around longer?

Put in the work to at least understand your worth in the marketplace.

If all your peers are getting offers ---- should tell you enough right there. You want a raise to keep working in Dante's seventh circle??? Ask for one and keep looking for a new job and leave. You're making two arguments at the same time. And remember that once your employer knows you ARE looking, you are never trusted the same ever again.

You try simply asking for it. If that fails you'll just need to put in the work like anybody else. Interview, get an offer, present it and see if you can get your own counter offer.

I would say something like this to your manager. With everyone leaving have you considered adjusting the remaining employees salary due to us taking on additional workload and as an incentive to stay?

Former Fiserv Manager here who has given raises to keep employees happy after loosing a team member. Under OFD I tried to keep a leaving employee and the employee wanted a one-time bonus to stay. I was told by HR Frank had to personally approve ANY retention bonuses. So a raise might be possible I don't think Frank has to be part of that, but any kind of one-time bonus sounds like Frank personally reviews.
