I got a better paid job at another bank, but the title is lower. I don't have much time to make a decision, which is not easy, because I don't want that decision to jeopardize my future career. On the other hand, I really want to leave BNY Mellon. What do you think, would it be a big mistake to accept such a job offer?

Robin, I think it would be a great move.
I'd make the jump, but I'd like to know if there are opportunities at the new job to advance. Titles are good if you have a huge ego to feed, but that don't pay the bills so go for it. Best of luck on your final decision.
Titles don't pay bills nor build retirement dollars -- take the new opportunity, prove yourself and take advantage of career path opportunities -- and have those career path conversations regularly with your manager -- something BNYM managers, in my experience, never do.
As long as you are running to something and not running from something, the title does not matter. Good for you (could I send you a copy of my CV to share with your new employer?)
title = shiit=craap; I will take more money in any time.
Take the money. Titles don't pay the bills and BNY is a sinking ship.
Go for it!
Never thought I'd say it, but you have to applaud BNYM - somehow they've brainwashed the poster into thinking their title is more valuable than comp... What this experience instead should tell you is that you are not the title that follows your name on your email signature - not in the real world.
What does lower title even mean? A VP at BNY means very little whereas at somewhere like Capital One a VP is an executive level position - above Manager and Director. So if you were to move from a BNY Director to Capital One VP for example, you've actually made a decent jump.
Titles mean nothing at BNYM. There are by far more VPs and above in Asset Serving then there are not. Most of them are still doing NAV and Recon work, no different from when the were 2-3 levels below current title.
Congrats!!!
Take the new opportunity. A lower title will not hinder your career. Future offers will be based on salary, not official job title. Job titles are so obscure from one organization to the next and that is known even among peer companies.
imagine then what salary you would get at another company with the same title or even higher. up to you how much you love this new job opportunity
