I personally think it will only get worse here. I wish it weren't so, because no matter what, it’s hard for me to leave the company I spent so many years in. Why is no one optimistic about IBM anymore?

It will only get worse until IBM goes the way of buggy, typewriter, and US textile companies.
I’m sure mainframes running Redhat linux is the wave of the future.
Please turn out the lights when you leave.
@quh ... Or Phineas T Barnum he knew how to run a circus
Hey OP it's called Stockholm Syndrome
"It will only get worse" - out of interest how long have you been here? I've been in IBM for decades and it has only ever got worse. Try naming something good that happened whilst you have been in IBM. It's not easy.
Hybrid Cloud is where the money is to be made from Fortune 500 cos - JPMC, Bank Of America, Wells etc. and this is where IBM is investing.
IBM missed the boat on Cloud. This can be discussed ad infinitum. It is the same as Nokia and Blackberry missing the boat on Smartphone (both companies became irrelevant quite rapidly). Cloud is where the action is in the industry now as everyone knows. It is where the excitement and energy is. In the 90's, IBM didn't miss the boat on outsourcing data centers and didn't miss the boat on the Client Server software revolution and so IBM was a relevant and interesting company to work for. It's sad to see IBM, because of it's myopic management, bungle this incredible industry transition so badly.
IBM isn't the only one but they certainly are one of the worst offenders of corporate thievery. The worker bees are waking up and realizing the executive ba----ds are stealing from them. The black suites don't contribute anything and yet they get paid 10x more than you.
Only Phineas Gage would be optimistic about IBM.
