What’s your opinion or fact based on what you’ve experienced?

I work here and bank here and at Chase. Chase is opening branches all around where I live. I go in the branch and people look genuinely happy, relaxed and welcoming. The customers also seem relaxed and happy to be helped.
I go in a WF branch and the staff is still very nice but there’s the same anxiety you feel in the office. The customers are on edge and brimming with complaints. I feel badly for the WF branch staff.
My advice would be to apply to Chase.
If you are coming in at entry level and enjoy working with people it’s a great place to start compared to other retail entry level jobs. However, branches are closing and most are understaffed. The tellers positions in my district that are posted were because people leaving for personal reasons or got fired for not balancing. I haven’t seen a teller leave just because job itself sucks in a while. I have seen quite a few bankers quit for that reason though.
Sure if you can find a time machine to go back and find an era when retail banking was still relevant and not just a cost center to cater to 5 or 6 miserable old people a day, I guess it could be a good summer job for a teenager.
Any local retailer would pay same if not better. It's honestly not worth the hassle to work for Wells. And yea, they're consolidating locations so it's not a safe bet.
Wells was very inefficient during its mergers so rather than close branches as they went, they would keep branches open that were neighbors. You combine that with so much of banking becoming automated, they are closing branches rapidly
I happened to notice that there are a lot of teller openings at WFC, many of them part-time. One would have to ask why tellers are quitting: brick and mortars closing, poor pay, high -pressure, WFC’s less-than-sterling reputation.
Truthfully, I would consider it only if you are having trouble finding another job.
Are they automating the branch jobs? Why are branches likely to close?
If you’re on this website then you’re someone who wants to build a career. The branch is the worst place you can do that. Your branch will likely close and if it stays open the furthest you’ll get is a service manager level position
