but when the bottom line came, and cuts needed to be made, I'm pretty sure she added my name on that cut list.
You can't trust anyone in the working world. I don't care how well you think you get along, they will throw you under the bus, if need be.

For the life of me I don't understand why some people get a layoff and others dont.
I'll be the first to admit that I've been on teams where better employees than me got let go, while I stayed.
Now that I'm ready to retire I wish they'd lay me off instead of somebody who truly needs their job. I'm financially prepared for it, the younger guys with families are not.
My favorite thing that happens is once the manager gives everyone their walking papers then they get their own packages completely blindsided!! Yup seen it !
Welcome to Well’s Fargo place is crawling with id--t backstabbers !
The last time the big layoff in our area occurred the boss promised us who escaped the layoff that it was not known who would be let go. Funny thing is that those let go were the true dogs of the staff. The others who remained were and are today good workers.
@plt+1guOx2ht I believe you mean well in your comment but don't forget there are those who will NOT be able to recoup their salary nor 401K if age is an issue.
Yeah, telltale signs are that you are paired up with other people to do work, have no projects you do on your own, are referred to by your manager as "supporting" co-workers who have the same job title as you, are gaslit & belittled by your team & manager, ie: concerns not taken seriously. I turned the table on my dysfunctional manager and team & resigned. The exit interview will be VERY interesting.
Nothing burger
What an absolutely lame post
I got told 3 days before who I was letting go. It’s supposed to be at least a weeks notice, or at least that’s what they told me 18 months ago.
Annual performance evals were supposedly a factor that was considered, but it was definitely somewhat discretionary several levels above me.
Wells Fargo evil managers knew who they cut but they still pretend and lie about to people. Dont get obsessed about your job at Wells Fargo because they lie all the times.
Please consider compassion for what managers are asked to do when it comes to cuts. They are GIVEN a list of criteria to follow and the number of FTE's that must be cut.
Please do not take a cut personally. You may be excellent.
Managers are also horrified by some of the asks they must perform.
Please look at this as an opportunity to utilize your strengths and bring those to another company that is eager to accept you into a new opportunity.
Best wishes on an amazing future.
@srs+1guOx2ht This happened in my group too. Our so-called manager protected the people he hired - even the ones who vaped weed in the restroom and slept at their desks. He only hired the best - IOW aging frat boys just like him. Everyone else was chopped liver.
@bah+1guOx2ht, sometimes the managers know well in advance of a day. I believe they know within months. They begin preparing for coverage. It happened in our group. We had to give a list of everything we were working on, with who we worked with and so forth.
After the layoffs, the manager had a meeting with those of us remaining, and mentioned they were preparing, and getting everything in place for months.
One of my personal rules is "Never trust a manager".
My manager played favorites in ranking their direct reports, and anyone they hired was safe. It was a sad commentary on how brown nosing trumped talent. I’m actively seeking other roles as I cannot stand my token manager any more.
Business is Business. Unfortunately you can group me as "loyal" to Wells but I also know that I am setting myself up to get hurt. My mindset if and when that layoff day comes is to accept it as a business decision and it was for the good of the company. Not to take it personally. I better get my damn severance first though....
Correct. The most a manager does, if asked, is provide a ranking based on performance, etc. HR has a number of factors that are used to determine the team members who will be displaced.
The division leader/manager will receive a list of those employees, and most likely your direct manager will not know who is on the list until the day the displacement are announced.
Your mgr probably didnt have a choice and had to rank you. Now you have learned that what you think isn't necessarily what you know.
