Thread regarding Ford layoffs

No, layoffs are not done

It might not be a big round that gets noticed every time, but we've been having constant layoffs for years now. They've been making small cuts throughout the company every month, I believe. Thinking you're safe just because a major round that you've heard of is done is both naive and shortsighted.

3rd quarter target is 1500, starting in June. No indication yet of scope details and dates.
Advise you don’t make any major purchases as 4th quarter cuts of 500 are also coming.

@1cgh while I agree older workers shouldn’t be targeted, and some mercy should be extended to someone who worked hard for 28 years and has slowed down for 2 years due to age/health. It is harder to extend mercy to those who have been retired on the job for 20 years, and there certainly are a lot of the retired on the jobbers.

Back during the 2000's the magical number for NA salaried headcount the company wanted was between 17-20k. Now with EV and offshoring you can expect that to drop even lower. This is not over. they staff south of the border but continue to cut here in NA. I see people making comments about getting rid of the older folks. Well, those older folks don't make the bad decisions. That would be management.
It is also very sad to see a coworker or someone you know get walked out. Those who praise that are mental and sick in the head. Expect cuts to continue util we are well below 10k. The worst is yet to come with this chip shortage and with China shutdown expect more plant shutdowns. remember Kumar has this 60-day plan to reveal the end of this month or early June.

I expect to see more salaried downsizing later this year in the Ford Blue side of the business. I don't expect that Ford's senior management will follow the advice in this haiku that's been making the rounds:

Farley says Ford needs
Totally diff'rent talent.
Start with C.E. O.
