With all the Tesla people now on the market you better hope you’re safe. Things are just going to get worse as more EV startups fail. Even if you’re friends with leadership it would be foolish not to consider the possibility of having to look for a new job.

Yes, we are safe.
Right now they're making their money selling very expensive gas guzzling trucks. Car dealer lots look pretty empty, so they're not selling to middle class people. High gas prices and a recession coming soon are going to cut back on their customer base even more.
Keep an eye out for handfuls of people disappearing from other departments without a word. That's what they did for the year before the last big layoffs
I think after mid year reviews finish around July end. Some stuff will happen before hiring freshers. People in tech require but it is all about cost vs output. Best of luck to people sitting in same role high increments added over years. This is not specific to GM. All other companies will do same.
Don’t ever think you’re safe if you work at GM.
There was a hiring freeze before the last big layoff at GM. I feel like the optics would be so detrimental to the company at this point that they are either going to fire differently this time or just ride the rollercoaster strait into the pavement. Economist are saying a recssion is possible soon so don't expect things to get better. Remember before the last recession GM was relying on truck sales, gas prices were skyrocketing, and the company went bankrupt.
