Why give us a project to work on just to cancel it nearly eight months later? I know I got paid for my work but I can't help but feel like I've just wasted almost a year of my life. Call me an id--t, but I'd like to believe that what I spend a third (at least) of my life on has some meaning.

I’m super excited.
But this is the new normal. Just be enthusiastic on any new idea, be the yes man ! If you want to make and feel like you are making a difference to the world, either do it on the remaining hours in the day or find another job. You will not find it in your work for csco

What's really fun is to watch something you helped create get decommisioned only to have it re-created a few years later with a catchier name at 10x the cost.

Every project and department I worked on was cancelled and useless. That's what happens when leaders are promoted due to relationships... and not performance

You must be new in IT? What you are describing is common place everywhere. Google's graveyard lists 267 projects at https://killedbygoogle.com/ - and that's but one company! Guess you'd better get used to it.
