Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

They would get rid of anybody and everybody

Everyone here used to have a pretty good idea how safe their job was. You more or less knew how valuable you were and how much your work was needed. That has now all changed and we saw it in the last layoff when high performers who performed critical work were let go for no obvious reason. In my group we even ended up having to hire new people to replace some who never should have been let go to begin with. It made no sense whatsoever. Whatever criteria Nike uses to get rid of people it seems to be a closely guarded secret, to be indiscriminate, and to often make no sense. This is why NO ONE should ever think “They wouldn’t get rid of me.” Sure they would. If it does happen don’t try to make any sense of it. There’s a good chance you’ll never know why you were randomly selected.

Well said, @ksu+1h6dUH3J.

Reason: age and tenure. Gotta make room for all the “high potentials” to figure it out on their own. Performance is not a measure of success or job security even now.

Assuming you are at WHQ. Oregon is an employment at will state. Nike can tell you to not come back tomorrow. They don't owe employees anything, nor do they have any legal obligation to keep anyone around.

It all depends on how much you make and if they can replace you with someone younger and cheaper. Not hard to figure out. Nike doesn’t serve you it serves the stock market.

Totally agree. Another loyal longtime employee laid off. Amazing talent! Impossible to believe Nike would want this person out on the open market. I guess the true bottom line at Nike is Mediocre employees are protected.
