Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Hearing several managers that they're having trouble hiring...

... they can't get candidates to interview because when they hear there is required hybrid return to office, they immediately reject moving forward. Candidates are only looking for fully remote, and if they can't get it here, there are other companies out there that will provide it. They've lost candidates who have accepted other offers from these companies, or simply not interested in interviewing at all. Unfortunately, the managers are being forced to continue seeking candidates who will come in, no matter how difficult it is. Curious to see the quality of the candidates they find this way.

Interestingly enough, there are tons of companies out there offering fully remote roles, who are excited to hire anyone who can't get fully remote roles at WF or other companies like Elon Musk's Tesla.

I'm so tired of the news claiming that people "don't want to work" or claiming that there is a "labor shortage"

When an entry level job requires five years of experience, it's not an entry level job

So many companies are guilty of this cr-p - they want everything in a candidate, & they're not willing to train anymore. Well guess what, some of us have realized that because they won't invest in us, they're not getting our loyalty. We'll pick up some skills & move jobs every 2 years because that's the only way to get some security - aka money - because there's no pension or gold watch waiting for us at the end of our working years. Treat us like cr-p? We won't forget. We get a new job, don't burn the bridge, and we leave. People in my age group, some of them may have hefty retirement savings, but I largely feel that the idea of retirement is a myth designed to get people to trust investment funds with their money.... I'm so jaded & it has served me well in some ways!

If there were financial troubles, they wouldn’t have given Chuckles a big raise and given several million dollar salaries to empty suits they have been hiring for solely facetime purposes.

This stealth snap freeze on hiring is very interesting. Seems to support other rumors of some financial troubles.

Recruiting in my area is not a problem given there is a hiring freeze that no one wants to talk about.

I have a friend who left WFC and is working a fully and permanent WFH job at Ed Jones. The medical insurance is more expensive, but she got a 25% pay bump. Employees have the opportunity to buy in to the partnership which has made a lot of people wealthy over time. Most importantly, she said the culture is noticeably better, and employees seem to be engaged and thriving.

Please explore your options. There are so many better opportunities out there. Let Charlie run the bank in to the ground, but don’t let him take you down with it.

Interestingly, hub employees are now the ones most likely to become flight risks. Anyone who was paying attention saw this coming.

We interviewed the PERFECT candidate. He/She/They was a former intern at JP Morgan, had a degree from UC Berkley, was the right color, and checked all the right LGBT boxes. And even had blue hair.

Management seriously wanted this person "whatever it takes".

Did we hire them/her/him...? No. We made a high offer. Then we made a REALLY high offer. Nope. Because that gal/guy/whatever was able to write their own ticket in today's market and is working somplace else right now, making boatloads of money.

But at the end of the day, deep down inside I'm not truly convinced that we lost out on that deal.

We are absolutely 1000% unable to hire. Period. End of story. Dot.Dot.Dot.

HR is taking a minimum of three months to disposition requisitions because of the volume. If people are looking for full-time remote and they are applying for jobs that list specific site locations, then they are setting themselves up for failure because there aren’t going to be any remote jobs unless you are high enough on the chain to get operating committee approval.

Management isn't stuck in anything, you meant the executives.

In any case, the truth of the matter is that some in person interaction IS beneficial for some roles, but not for most. The problem with the NYC Gang is that they are using it as a we---n to drive attrition, which is the reason for the (mostly) blanket policy.

They refuse to compete above mid-range and offer zero flexibility. Word has traveled that WF is not a safe place to land.

recruiters are leaving to make more money elsewhere. with all the job changes happening companies can't keep up so recruiters are at a premium.

Young people EXPECT flexibility. If you don’t have it, they move on. Not brain surgery except for management stuck in their old ways.

These new HR geniuses show know this. That is their speciality…allegedly.

RTO may be a part of it, but WF is its own worse enemy. It's a failing company with failing technology. It's in the news monthly for a new scandal. It's known that WF is wanting to offshore as much work as possible. WF is not a good place to work. It would be like a person hopping on a lifeboat to board the Titanic 15 minutes before the iceberg. Add to that the RTO and lowered wage title classifications.

The applications don’t move they sit there. And then when you get an interview they freaking sit there again. And then the recruiters are too lazy to update submission to decline so you sit there in “interview status” even longer for weeks wondering wth is going on, no responses from hiring managers and recruiters are Mia. WF gets what it deserves. The hiring process here is a joke. I’m glad outside companies are right on it and actually do the work to move process along instead of wasting a candidate’s time.

Hiring for tech positions was an issue even before COVID. I heard a variety of stories that we'd go to hire a candidate, but they'd get a much better offer elsewhere or we just couldn't match their salary requirements.

RTO is an abject failure.

Morale is in the toilet.

Employees feel no urgency to do any more than the minimum.

All because of geriatric thinking at the top.

We need leaders that think younger.
