Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

RTO mandate should apply to directors and above only

No hate on directors, just saying younger or lower ranked employees are getting screwed by the RTO mandate disproportionately.

Some of us weren't homeowners before the insane price spike the last few years, and our raises have been completely blown away by inflation. My rent increased 30% easily the last few years. So now my choices are:

1-Find an "affordable" house a 1-2 hour commute away from the office, then spend all of that money on fuel.

2-Continue to rent and throw money away to keep a job that clearly wants me to quit.

3-Find a remote-friendly job (that get 500 applicants+ per posting on every jobs board) as a less-experienced professional.

If the pandemic proved we can do our jobs remote, why is leadership obsessed with forcing us to commute to an office in a shithole city to teams call with our team members in other states? I was hoping I would be able to work here for many years, its a shame this decline feels so forced and unnecessary.

Some buildings do require badging out.

It's pretty simple...

You have the option of ahering to your employers asks or you can exit.

Just keep in mind, we're heading into a recession. Most companies are beginning to dial back open positions. Some smaller/boutique companies may not fair well. Don't make your decision soley based on emotions, the next two years are going to be a little rough.

Alpharetta does not require badge to exit the turnstile… you just walk through it.

We don't badge out. We push a button and walk out the door. What locations are you saying record badge outs?

"Unions force everyone down to the same level and keep you from advancing based on your own merits. "

what is this fantasy corporate land you live in where merit has anything to do with advancements??? I'd give 20% of my salary for a union if it meant I wasn't getting hit with RTO. If you are that afraid of unions maybe don't treat employees like sh-t????

Some locations record badge in AND badge out times and it goes on a report. Our dictator in chief probably watches this report and sapience all day

I don't even go in. I drive up to the office, work out in the gym, swipe my badge and go home. Nobody says a word.

The fewer employees there are left, the easier it is to unionize.

Unions are bad for everyone. Would you really want to give 10% of your paycheck to a union? Do you want to have a union rep at every meeting with leadership? When it comes time for merit increase, you'll only get what the union approves! Unions force everyone down to the same level and keep you from advancing based on your own merits. Think before you act, Unions will destroy everything we've worked together to build.

Heard Chris A. had a meeting to get all of IT back to pre-pandemic as he thinks Covid is in the past. Apparently someone in that meeting had Covid and they all had to quarantine. Karma?

Let’s not even forget that Covid cases are on the rise. In Franks wisdom, he decided to invite everyone back…. Vaccinated or unvaccinated. When you hear someone hacking in a nearby cube…. It’s too late

Everything you need to know is right here: https://www.njeda.com/emerge/ (look under 'eligibility' and 'additional information')

Companies seeking NJ tax credits need to reach certain goals. There are many, but two of them in particular are as follows:

  • an increase in the number of company employees paying NJ income tax (the reason for demanding relocation)
  • minimum investment in new/rehabilitated office space (the reason for demanding RTO)

I assume any company attempting to meet the goals of the Emerge program believe it will be fiscally advantageous, when all is said and done. Only time will tell if that was a correct decision.

Fyi - I’m not being forced to return to the office. They are still allowing some departments to work remote.

I’m in the exact same boat. It really is a shame and horrible timing with the housing market + inflation. Stay here just long enough to get the skills and experience you need for a better role. That’s my plan

Unless the company maintains the required occupancy buried in the deal they will not get the tax breaks
