At this point, nobody is safe at US Bank. Layoffs are not done. There'll be more, the only question is when. Also, there's no rhyme or reason for these layoffs. People who've been here for decades have been laid off and those who've been here for a few months were affected as well. A coworker who was 100% certain he was safe was laid off. This all goes to show that there's no safe here anymore. You need to accept it and learn to live with it or you're in for a rude awakening.

The bank and mortgage co and other areas flew thru this in 2008. The difference now is poor leaders. Tim W is a poor leader and a great con artist. Tom W is basically the same having bounced around for the biggest bonus. Fred B is a functioning alcoholic that has derailed a great mortgage co. This is the view from my vantage point.
Your direct manager has no clue as to who is safe and not. Decisions made way about their pay grade. Often people are let got without manager's knowledge.
This is so true! I have a coworker who was told by their manager that they were safe, then their manager's position was eliminated, and not long after my coworker's position was also. I'm worried every morning when I log in that I'll have an "invite" to a call. You just never know. I've updated my resume and started networking more. Everything will work out, it'll just be stressful until it does.
Absolutely right. It’s a publicly-traded bank in corporate America - not a family. If you’re not ready / able / old enough to retire, get your resume updated and be prepared. Don’t freak out, don’t do anything d-mb (like quit without having another job lined up unless you can truly afford it), look out for yourself and others if you can.
Prepare. Plan. Network!
Change can be scary, especially when it’s change we don’t want. But it can also lead to bigger and better things. Deep breath. We’ve got this.
