I heard this from different sources today. Apparently they are wanting to shutter the Chesterfield Macy’s which is pretty much dead anyway. Market by Macys is not apparently open on the area. I heard the long term plan in Greater St. Louis is to close Chesterfield, Mid-Rivers and South County soon. Anyone have any comments or concerns about this?

Just looked up this store -- classic May design. Reminds me of our converted Kaufmann's.
Pffft. Back when it was Famous-Barr, the area supported over twice as many Macy's as we have nowadays. Macy's ran the stores into the ground, and nobody shops Macy's anymore.
As far as Chesterfield, the building was sold last year - so you do the math. It's a shame too, that was such a nice building when it was Famous-Barr.
As far as South County and Mid-Rivers, if they pull out of Mid-Rivers then they are going to abandon pretty much half of St. Louis. But then again, Mid-Rivers has nothing compared to the Dillard's there.
I agree some metro areas are just way too saturated. The demographics as of late tend to support only so much department stores in high populated areas. Maybe 2-3 Macys locations in metro areas as large as St. Louis. With a population of less then 3 million and stagnating, that area in particular doesn’t need more retail.

Makes sense based on long term direction if just one or two big stores per market w/ market stores filling in the open “better” areas
