Encouraging Your Team

I am not sure if we have any frontend member team leads on this forum. If yes, it'd be great if you can share some pearls of wisdom as it relates to encouraging your team to get credits. I am finding this very difficult.

Former front end associate here:
Plus and credit were my least favorite part, even though I was semi successful, especially when they wanted you to ask EVERYone EVERY time and they would stand behind you or lurk in the shadows to make sure.
Dealing with Synchrony for the members was enough of a hassle for me too so I can understand why people hated the credit cards.

One person commented about the interest rates, that was another big turnoff too. Some would see the lower of the two rates and be okay but those rates were RARELY assigned but I’d be stupid to share that.

I just personally felt like a dirty swindler in dealing with so much of that.

And then you’d have someone spending 100s of dollars consistently but could not convince them for your life to upgrade or apply for credit.

Finally there are the people that would upgrade for the gift card, not renew at plus the upgrade again. As a desk associate getting them to stay at plus at time of renewal was another task.

One final thing I will mention is that plus and credit were “everyone’s” responsibility but I know of leads and others that couldn’t tell you the first thing about plus or credit.

Costco near to my area at least once a month has a table for upgrades. For the credit card they double down to make sure you are on auto-renew.

You can say no to all of it but the next month it will start all over again.

The credit and PLUS offered at Sams/Walmart has nearly zero benefits. Savings of 10 to 20 cents for each gallon of gas is menial compared to the finance charges! Only real benefit for PLUS is no delivery fee on some items...if you use delivery. Those are the reasons many people aren't interested! Side note...I mainly shop at Costco now and not once has anyone bugged me about credit or their Executive (upgraded) membership!

if a member wanted a card they would sign up on their own. I know members get upset with the same questions.

I stopped asking because I do not get paid enough to hassle people for credits or upgrades.

Have a meeting and be nice about it. The only one who benefits from credit goals is the CM Bonus though. DON'T threaten them with coachings. Stick up for your team if the mgr starts coming down on you. With Bidenflation nobody needs debt right now. Interest rates are climbing and people don't need 25% interest rates.

I talk about 5% cash back on gas. They will not find that kind of return nowhere else. No other company is even close. Also, take the pamphlet and learn about all the benefits of the card, you will see that some of that will be handy. You can also ask if 'will this be on your sam's card' to remind them about the card, it's a good conversation starter too.
