Automation has been talked about a lot for our department and the company as a whole. Will this lead to layoffs? I feel like that could cut my position for this reason.

Depends. Automation isn't completely without humans. I would read up on it as much as you can. It is a desired skillset.
Isn’t the point of automation to cut costs and streamline processes? Whether your job will be impacted depends on your role and area.
