Rehiring practice

I only know one person who got an offer to come back after leaving Cisco.
That person didn't come back, which is very understandable, but anyway, I'm interested in how frequent is this practice of Cisco trying to rehire those who quit?

I was offered a contract gig after seven years separation. I could use the money, but, my health is more important to me. I've done my time.

Eh, Chambers stepped down as CEO in 2015 and as Exec Chairman in 2017. Either you're fibbing or have a warped concept of time passing.

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? It doesn't seem like JC's departure in '15 was all that long ago. Has it really been 7 yrs? Then again, everything since 2020 has sort of blurred into one timeless blur.

Received a John Chambers signed award for excellent performance on a project; then was LR'd three months later.
That was four years ago; with over 15 years in.

The DEI grift is a great distraction from having to address the compensation inequality between the average worker and c-suite.

It also allows mediocre racists to advance their career without doing anything productive.

IBM will be the first to sink. It takes a lot to sink legacy tech companies with blank check government contracts. We aren't Nortel selling mainly to other businesses

In an alternative universe, Cisco nailed the migration and is a premier better-than-AWS cloud and cloud software subscription provider worldwide. Imagine a world where is was done right. Instead, these distractions to allow those up the chain to keep cashing out. Row harder galley slaves, this vessel will eventually sink; with you still chained to it.

It is not that common to get a job offer for employees interested in coming back. You get same email, used to be same work phone #. I even got older email and voice messages !

That's the frustrating bit! Cisco isn't saving a dime with LRs. In the grand scheme of things, what is saving $250K per year by laying off a TSA going to do to the bottom line? It achieves the exact opposite result: nobody wants to join Cisco anymore, current employees are demoralized, everybody needs to work more to cover for the departed and good talent is only thinking about getting tossed out with a package. LRs are the we---n of choice of mo--nic CEOs.

I wouldn't bring a very high % back. You leave the dept or company you better walk on water if you want me to hire you back. I can only name a couple and to think I would pay the sweatshop AWS money you are out of your mind. I would rather spend time on an EIC or 3 for that price.

In America currently there is no legal requirement to maintain a meritocracy in the workplace [for non "protected groups"]. I worked at all the big 3 and others for 25+ yrs. They all s*ck and are at the same time all great. It's about what you make of it, and how much you are willing to take from it. ...tomatoes are doing great this year, and grapes are now bearing fruit (sorry got distracted by what really matters in life)...

What cloud, enterprise software, or security products are customers buying? Cisco doesn't offer products IT departments want in 2022. It's not 2004 anymore.

@1sum+1hIMVW6j ... Cisco has absolutely no new product offerings.

Not true. Customers have CHOICE. It's HOT HOT HOT.

Fran doesn't care about social causes. It's a distraction due to our lack of cloud offerings. Amazon is bragging about AWS revenue, while Cisco has absolutely no new product offerings.

Social causes are merely a cheap corporate distraction.

Work at Cisco was not about the money for me, it was about teamwork and pushing oneself technically. I was proud to be here.

So they wanted me to go. For what? To use my salary for a bunch of Fran's social causes?

Well you can have that money. Hope you put it to good use. I 99.99999% am sure it was however not.

Your loss Cisco.

Executive inept clowns are running this once great company. Glad I am not part of it now after seeing what it has morphed into.

Very common in my group. VP trying to reignite the flame with talent gone astray. Not a single one has come back though. I've been asked to seduce that talent. Not gonna happen. People are free to choose for themselves.

After 6 months, you can come back if there is a job for you and a mgr willing to take you.
I know a few folks who to went to Arista, Juniper, HP, etc and they all came running back to Cisco. They realized how easy it is to work at Cisco. No wonder Cisco has been voted #1 best place to work at for the past 4 consecutive years.

Security brings people back. I can't say that it's frequent. But have known 4 or 5 in the past 18 months. Seems like they are back as full-time.

Former employees that have strong relationships with Directors/VPs can easily be rehired full-time. The people without strategic relationships return as contractors and eventually need anti-depressants.
