Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Ok so… time for plan B everyone

Let’s recap what everyone needs to do:

  1. resume update
  2. LinkedIn profile update and network there!
  3. if you’re laid off, some may choose to use the green “open to work” thing on LinkedIn after severance period ends.
  4. take stock of spending/ finances now. What can you cut out that isn’t a huge impact on quality of life? (we all have things.)

That’s the easy stuff we can all do to prepare. Then, the harder stuff/questions:

  1. what do I WANT to do?
  2. what am I GOOD AT?
  3. what “interim” role would be fine with me while looking for the next thing?

Take a deep breath. Make a plan and it will seem less daunting if you do get invited to the dreaded early-morning call.

I wasn't waiting for a call to tell me I had been severed. The writing was all over the wall. I am one of 3 who made it out of my team with a position. Breaks my heart to see them all still showing up and working knowing they don't have a job by the end of the week.

Can’t speak for others’ experiences, but LinkedIn is my #1 tool (job search and application, networking). My last day was 6/30 and have had and scheduled several interviews. I hope when I see my severance agreement this Friday there’s no stipulation that starting a new position impacts severance payout, but in any case big picture is key. Not desperate but certainly not sitting around until after the severance period either since most positions require several interviews. The current environment seems decent for job seekers but guessing opportunities may narrow a bit with the economy the way it is.

Avoid linkedin. They blacklist people capriciously.

That's what I'm doing. I refuse to wait until I get the email invite for a call to be looking.
