Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

JPM added 18k net new employees in past year

I just saw in the quarterly earnings. That's NET employees, after replacing all the departures.

My question is, what are these 18K net new people doing that were not backfilling old positions? I don't see any excess headcount anywhere around me, so I am genuinely curious. My area has been understaffed for 2+ years now, with no approval to make offers.

Where are the 18k net new headcount working?

I resigned after many, many years of service earlier this year, and 10 of my directs followed suit after my departure (two of which followed me to my new employer). I've heard thru 'the grapevine' that my LOB was having trouble backfilling after everyone's departure including my directs, and my former position has not been filled yet either. So yes, where are the 18k??
