Bitter UAW person does raise a point. Ford D&R are responsible for all aspects of a part, including packaging and fasteners. Someone releasing an electronic module just uses a fastener used by a similar module. If there is a problem, it gets tricky. The supervisor and manager don't know anything either. Somewhere, there are some older engineers that dealt with fasteners, or maybe they retired. They certainly are dinosaurs. Younger engineers are busy with the data and subscription future - why waste time on such mundane things. Perhaps someone in Mexico is willing to deal with such mundane things.
@1awk+1hPXVkxB Keep in mind that while you might have only a couple things on your plate, others have 20. Your fastener request might seem urgent but that same Engineer could be juggling a plant shutdown, an investigation into high warranty claims, and delivery to the latest build event.
The biggest thing I've had to learn in my career is to take a step back and realize that everyone doesn't have the same situation. I've worked with immensely capable people who were great when they got to your project... but it might take a week for that to happen. They weren't d-mb, just overloaded. In our current "do more with less" environment, this is only going to get worse.
Getting back on topic... It is absolutely incredible to me that ONE DAY after the news of 8,000 layoffs leaks that Jimmy Car Car and his favorite minions dressed up in tuxes to pat themselves on the back for...what exactly? What has Farley done in his short CEO tenure that is worthy of anything much less an award from a "hall of fame"? Granted these phony accolades are bought and paid for by the industry itself, but the hubris behind this one seems extra thick.
I wanted to throw up this morning scrolling through pictures on Twitter of Truby and the PR other minions tweeting pics out of Farley receiving his major award and getting feted by the automotive press shills. What an absolute clown show.

Most of you are on this site complaining about Farley, etc. yet have little skills yourself. No doubt, with your response you were one of these individuals prior to retiring.
Here is a good example of your great "Education". Late last week, I began trying to communicate with a PD engineer (she didn't answer her phone, emails, nothing), but after 1 1/2 days of trying on my behalf, she finally called me. I told her she needed to pick a different fastener, that the one she chose for her design was not robust enough to last thru product testing and had already failed. This "educated" PD engineer told me to pick a sc--w. I just laughed on the phone at her. I had to actually tell her that it was her responsibility to select the proper fastener for the design. She became agitated and told me she would have to get back to me. I haven't heard from her since. The program is way behind on timing and she doesn't even have a concern. I really don't think she even knows much about different fastener types. With her higher "education" than mine, I can only imagine that she is talking to her manager about the need for a "safe space" like she had in college because some mean testing technician laughed at her over the phone. I called the program manager 2 days ago (the one with the man-bun on top of his head, who talks more about his political beliefs than he does work) - his response "He will see what he can do. In the meantime, see what I can do to continue the testing and make up some time". Haven't heard from him since because he is more busy now working from home than he ever was before the pandemic (his words not mine). I'm sure come Monday or Tuesday, he will call me asking me how we are doing on timing. Today is Friday, I can't expect him to work on Friday - now can I???
Both of these individuals are "educated" yet can't do any real work! So, impress me some more telling me about your education! This is as funny as what I see written about Farley and other executives on this site.
Since you are "educated" I will write down your "educated" response for you, so you don't have to put in any effort - "Is that you Jim?"

I am salary and I agree, on work on site, in validation and we find all the engineering issues. Too much time in PowerPoint meetings. Engineers just not doing their jobs. Sitting at home and out of touch with the products they are designing. I have worked from home, so I know it is a chill slacker gig. What is funny is people think, I work on EV stuff will I be ok.. ICE should worry.
The onsite teams knew that were going to be massive cuts over a year ago. The offices have been empty and no sign of bringing people back.
UAW person here --- looks like @rnr+1hPXVkxB posting near the bottom of this thread that all of you salaried "wonder workers" with your fancy job titles and college degrees gave 38 down arrows to (as of this posting) was 100% correct. None of you showed up in downtown Detroit! Go figure - you have the same work ethic with your careers, too.
Just a bunch of salaried workers on this site whining about their paycheck, but too lazy to get out and drive to Detroit and protest. Just like you all are too lazy to even go to work. Here is proof - just try and get a Ford engineer or program manager to show up at the pilot plant for a review of the part they are responsible for --- doesn't happen much. And the PD managers that do ever show up can only talk intelligently about the number or location of coffee cup holders! Everyone of you are just hiding behind keyboards acting like big shots, running your mouths -- big and brave of you all!
P.S. - since I feel sorry for your pathetic work ethics/business knowledge, here is a freebie for you --- when they terminate your employment, don't put "working from home" as one of your skill sets! You are the only ones who think that way! No wonder Ford has no problem lowering their headcount or replacing you with workers from India or Mexico!

Yes there are useless WFH salaried slackers who in a perfect world should get cut. But they likely won't. Don't forget though, there are managers who let the slackers do what they do. They are the real problem with this company.

Oh, sure! Like any of you "working from home" salaried employees are going to drive down from your homes in Rochester, Northville, Bloomfield, etc. to Detroit and picket or protest. Dream on - most of you don't do any real work that you actually get paid for. I know, I know - reading emails, going to endless meetings, and "managing" suppliers (wink-wink) is real tough work. You have to have a college degree to be able to do it or even to understand how difficult the work is. Here is the honest truth - It would take effort to picket - even the union employees will do that - but salaried employees do any real work. No way - not going to happen. Too many golf leagues on a Thursday night anyway - sort of gets in the way of protesting. Even if any salaried employees did show up, What are you going to do - create a sign in powerpoint and flash your tablets or laptops on the street! Or maybe you can all log in to a Zoom meeting on your laptops and do a virtual protest!
