In my experience the more further you get from the people who do the actual work, the less competent of a manager they are.
You seem to have the opposite perspective. You must not do any work at all.

"Stellar" talent knew when to jump ship and did so. All that remains are the bottom feeders that get promoted up out of desperation or know-nothings brought in from outside.
