Used to be a company of engineers leading engineers. Now HR makes all the decisions - even overriding ranking decisions to support their agenda.

Controllers used to run EM now it's HR.
TG: Being bad is easy - it's what she's good at - adding value takes skill she doesn't possess.
Kind of appropriate she's a former 'captain' on a sinking ship
HR for XOM is nothing more than Human Remains! Their slogan should be #WeAreHumanRemains
Friggin sea captain is running HR, with 0 HR experience and no other claimed HR leader has guts to tell the sea captain that she's leading the ship the Titanic way!
@1jsa+1hTkjUJg, ahuh! Really? If what you are saying is true why the heck TG is leading the HR pack? What HR experience she brings in and the contribution she has made in the HR space, other than her snooby attitude? Care to explain? Look at the people running CLO, Data and Analytics, Compensation, and other areas. Are these folks HR experienced?
HR is definitely managed by engineers. Engineers go into management, and Exxon thinks managers can go anywhere and run any organization despite not having a background in the group they manage. Exxon is managed by HR and legal now.
There's a lot of comments from Trolls here (or maybe "HR" trying to save face). HR is generally not staffed by engineers (yes a few cross over - but that's rare). HR is generally a career within HR (and other admin type roles - procurement for example). For those saying "Clinton doesn't have HR" - sure they do. It's just mostly staffed by a central org in Spring. But HR is still calling the shots. In the old days - engineering/science management had the final say. Big difference. Not perfect but much much better than than what we have today.
We have no HR in Annandale , they have evaporated….so woke here, sad state … we have one of each…..
You engineers are overrated when you get operators to do 90 percent of your job. Maybe you should have gotten those one million pressure surveys.
Guesss when someone else that can do your job is doing your job sucks! Good riddance.
Similar to all the other posts about incompetent managers in the business that get promoted into management because they had a sponsor or was a chosen one, HR is no different my friend. The engineer managers you bash also end up in HR. Vicious cycle.
There is no HR in EM.
Scripted plans and communications developed by External Consultants.
Same as with most of the company's decisions and plans.
So enough with the shilling, OP.
You know that.
You also realize that HR is the scapegoat and poor managers blame HR for their own decisions?
You realize that a fair amount of engineers run the HR dept with a sea captain as it's leader, right?
Perhaps the problem is that they put an engineer in charge of HR, rather than someone who actually has experience and knowledge in HR. Many of the problems are either created by, enbled, or made worse by HR. If the company wants to change, they should start with HR.
“Used to be a company of engineers leading engineers. “
Really?
Question: when was the last time any engineer at Exxon did any actual engineering? Excluding trivial case studies, It’s been years since anybody working there has published anything. New designs? Improved processes? Automation? You’ve got nothing.
Pray tell.
