Caught in a recession, steamrolled by Amazon. Blaming their own workers is very low-class.
Laid off 10% and dished out a bunch of bu-----t PIP to many others as a way to A) Stop them from earning new compensation and B) issue more than 10% terminations with cause and not offer severance package. Tobi literally told us during townhall today to "Stop our side hustles" and focus on Shopify. This was after they told us we had 4 weeks to improve or get fired.
Tobi has been sleeping at the wheel for a while. I am afraid it'll not stop here.
Many lemmings are duped by these one-trick pony's that think their shyte doesn't stink. Eventually the music stops and it all hits the fan.
Very ugly ... only the beginning ... much worse lies ahead. The 70s called ... they want their monster mortgage rates and uncontrolled inflation back.
Just read their CEO's letter or the essay on wanting their employees to requalify for their jobs by showing up 40% better every year.
Feel so fed up with this type of leadership style that seems to be more and more common nowadays.
So many things wrong about that attitude.
Yes it is a competitive world but I hope that good but most importantly happy teams ultimately win (Airbnb, Square, Google to name a few that are like this in my perception until my bubble bursts about them too) and not the ones that are just ruthless and "literally only want best people" (who doesn't?).
Well guess what, best people have a ton of options too!!!

The severance should be OK. I work for a competitor but I am in Ontario too..
Minimum in Ontario is 2 weeks notice or pay in lieu (Employment Standards Act).
But for large layoffs (>500) the notice/severance goes up to potentially 16 weeks.
Doesn't always apply but might be easier to pay it out than to have legal fight, where the payouts are often even higher.
He admitted the mistake and he owned it. Fu-k it. Layoffs suck, I may be on the list.
At least he spoke up, the Meta guy was blaming everyone except himself.
Good luck all!
