Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is there any use in asking a manager if we're safe?

I see some of you have opted to do this and I was considering the same thing, but how reliable of an answer can he give me if it's not clear yet what's going on? He might think I'm safe but if the decision is being made above his head, can he know it? Or do managers know in advance if their people are safe?

@fet+1hWlxXKa Some managers flat out lied about not being the person who put peoples names on the list. Funny how things come out over time and you find evidence (copies of emails out on servers).
It is actually fairly common for Ford managers to layoff their best performers. They view it as eliminating their competition. This is one of the primary reasons for the Ford mediocrity.

In some cases with the difficult personnel decisions there is a matrix that is reviewed. They look at salary based on ll or gsr level and if pension eligible. If you fall above the line, it's a cost cut reduction based on dollars only.

You can ask but don’t expect an answer that you can trust. During SRD there were managers who didn’t seem to know who was going until the day of. I also knew of a couple of people who were told they were safe because of years of high performance only to be walked out. Don’t know how this will go but I can’t believe all of the managers were asked for input during SRD. Some of those released in SRD were bottom feeders but some were high performers. I can’t believe a manager would suggest eliminating their high performers.

It's like the fat pig asking the skinny pig which of them will head to the sl------r first. It's always in the skinny pig's interest to keep the fat pig ignorant.

Managers have been moot on anything related to retirement.. The last time they discussed it was this spring when they had the first round of cuts. Two of the managers I report to have over 30 yrs and they are also looking at the lump sum.

During SRD there were only a few managers that actually planned and managed all of the separations across all of the departments. Most managers were in the dark.
