I've been looking through all the usual sites in the past week or so and I found more than enough open positions in all the major banks. I was worried that there would be none since there are layoffs all across the industry, but I was wrong. This makes me at least a bit less worried about the incoming round.

Agree, Gov release data by tracking those openings, and they conclude plenty of programming jobs that American cannot handle. We do not have enough American grad that we need to import from China.
We can also sleep easy that none of those posted jobs are posted simply to satisfy Labor Condition Application (LCA) for H1b and green cards.
I work on the commerical credit side and for past few months I consistently get reached out to by outside recruiters on LinkedIn, which yes I know can often be BS but it's still a sign of potential activities. I also have been contacted by direct recruiter from 2 smaller banks.
