Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Sinking ship, sinking stock

We this this place is a sinking ship. Stock price headed down to 40. Gone nowhere in over 20 years. This place is like the Edsel, Flobie, Betamax, and Enron.

That’s a great reason. ESPP is a great reason to hold shares. Cannot go wrong with getting a discount on purchases and a reliable dividend stream.

I have a bunch in my 401(k) from back when BNY gave a discount for bank stock. And it makes a few thousand dollars every quarter just from dividends. I'm sure I would have been much better if I were able to put it into AAPL, TSLA, AMZN or even something like PAYX. But I'm sure my dividends more than made up for any capitol gains I would have seen in most index funds.

Why would an employee ever hold BK stock? There is a Federal tax break for those holding employer stock, but a tax break is worthless for a stock that flatlines for 3 decades. Even staying because of options is a questionable decision at best.
