Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why promote people to management positions they're not qualified for?

Do they not realize how many problems they create for every single person who is directly under that manager? This is not the first time this has happened and this will not be the last time, of that I'm certain. I guess kissing the right butts gets you everything at T, no matter your qualifications.

I recently applied to a management position that I was way qualified for. Didn’t get it even though I was told to apply for it because it was my job if I did. Explain that one?

For 2 reasons…job security for the upper level: not concerned about that more qualified lower level backstabbing their way up the ladder; they are also referred to as “scapegoats” in the event that change of leadership/direction needs to be achieved. Of course you will not read that in your higher education textbooks that you went in debt for to even get on the ladder in the first place ;)

Another vague cryfry post from a union employee who doesn’t respect management at any level. Maybe you should just quit and go to McDonald’s.

Whether someone is qualified for a management position is subjective. And the higher up you go, the more subjective it is.

Yes, the tendency at T is to view ring-kissing as a core competency

That's not completely true about COR. Their job is also to sniff out like minded sc-m and teach them the way. COR, you will never find a more wretched hive of sc-m and villany.

Because they do less damage there.
Managers now need zero idea of what the job entails and all they need to kniw is how to get people on steps of discipline.
