"Let's discuss Polaris. Sounds dandy, big words... Here are the five pillars of the strategy, I'd be curious what folks in the trenches think about it...

Strengthen Customer Relationships – We will build customer lifetime value, expand our loyalty program, and accelerate personalization and monetization.
Curate Quality Fashion – We will drive disciplined merchandise category roles, be the best destination for the best brands, and balance sales and margin.
Accelerate Digital Growth – We will improve the digital experience across both .com and our app, grow our omni-channel customer base, and improve profitability.
Optimize our Store Portfolio – We will continue the Growth treatment for stores in the best malls, find ways to profitably expand off-mall, and test and prove a market ecosystem.
Reset our Cost Base – We will right-size the organization and expense base, improve our working capital, including faster inventory turns, and balance top-line and bottom-line growth."

This is a "grand strategy" and "nice mission" statement. However, it appears the "execution" has been off in several areas. Great salespeople take time to train and require trainers with some experience. Where are the trainers? I believe that this has
worked better in the online store than the physical store. Many "customer relationships" were disrupted by Covid-19. A potential recession is not helping.

The fashion selection and the quality of merchandise don't always meet customer
expectations. Do the buyers have an eye for quality and value? Do they know and understand fabrics? Do they know how to sew? Would they use the product? Do they anticipate customer trends or are they trying to dictate them? (Must haves?)

Does Macy's do a good job in product selection for smaller markets? The ability to
buy in bulk is a great advantage, but some of this stuff won't sell in some markets.
Does Macy's do a good job selling to 40+? I hear how hard that is and how unsuccessful
that has been at times, but guess what, there is a lot of money there.

It's a tricky job trying to balance costs and customer expectations. Covid-19 didn't
help.

Realignment of supply chains could provide opportunities for fresh merchandise.

Better alignment of digital goals and store goals might help. At times they seem to be
at odds.
