Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

People need to step up

Someone needs to step up against Marvin's cronies and all his friends in the company. I have watched good employees be bullied to quit and forced to move all because a douch is in power that is Marvin's best friend. This sh-t has got to stop. Marvin said he doesn't hire friends and family but his friends and family are all over the company as Store managers, district managers and ect. Even Joe's brother they just made a store manager. Lowes is being run into the ground and everyone is scared of losing their job to say anything or take it to the next level. Numerous complaints get filed on his cronies and nothing is ever done because associate relations is in his back pocket.

Time to leave people. It is not going to get any better. For the employees ready to retire get out now, for the new employees - find a better job because Lowes has nothing more to offer and it is getting worse everyday.

The best media to report this to is CNBC or any financial news. Share the information, specific details, union organizing news. This is the only thing that matters to the C Suite. Share documents, dates, give examples of employment law cases recently lost, etc. Find out what big investment firms have a large percentage of shares owned - contact them directly and share the stories.

The problem is not going away. Deep South comments - Deep discounts postings that supplied proof ! Reg 15 comments and even had it narrowed down to the market # - union talking etc etc - easiest thing to do is move on.

Don’t get me wrong here - Lowes has easy money to be made by doing nothing and keeping your mouth shut and doing as little as possible.

I was an operations manager and could not take it anymore. Merch. ASM’s walk around not doing anything / can’t catch manager calls. Most salary managers hide in an office somewhere. Or the break room eating. So that leaves zero leadership running the floor. DS managers complaining they are over worked while walking around with a Starbucks in their hands complaining.

Mst screws up sims and blames red vests. Xpo ja--ing up all customer orders.

Then when ANYTHING is brought up to the associate relations line about leadership (mkt mgr. Or MHRBP) it’s all swept under the rug.

If you actually want a career ? Because you actually care about your job ? MOVE THE HE$$ on away from lowes ! Let them keep those that are there to collect a paycheck and go make yours somewhere else !

You can tell lowes in this area of town is being made to be what I can’t post - but shows in their actions of who they are hiring to do nothing to grow the business !

Managing through fear and intimidation has been going on at Lowe’s way before Marvin and Joe started running the company. In fact, I saw it first hand back in the late 90s and early 2000’s in the stores that I worked in. It is nothing new. I put up with it for 20 yrs until I’d finally had enough in 2017. It’s effective to a point but the shelf life for managers that practice it is usually short and it always catches up with them eventually. You cannot treat people like that and not suffer negative consequences down the line.

It is at the Regional level. The Sears group. They ran Sears to the ground, why bring them to destroy Lowe's? There is study after study in business school about what Sears did well and not so well and it is clear the folks that were brought over to Lowe's from Sears were part of the "not so well" group. Their old school mentality that they like to brag about is manage by total fear. They don't PIP anyone, they just "force them to leave" by dirty tricks and threats. The numbers are in and leading by fear and dirty tricks doesn't work. It worked in the pandemic, but now it is over.

Marvin needs to clear house - especially in the midwest. He won't as there are too many connected folks and his loyalty to those will be the fall of a great company. Who is going to have the guts to clean house?

To “I do agree that the company is being run into the ground.”

Well said - every single word of it.
“Comically obvious desperation” - classic!

Not only that, but Marv and his corporate bootlicks have turned the place into a hostile environment. Tempers and stress are at an all time high, everyone is stretched to the maximum and they still expect more than whats humanly possible. They really put you in a bad situation with customers as well, being overwhelmed. Your helping this customer, that customer, the other customer..... but then you get cussed and yelled at for not helping that other customer. I've seen employees about go toe to toe with each other, customers threaten employees, yelling matches, cuss outs. Not to mention all the management threats. I dread going to work everyday.

I do agree that the company is being run into the ground. I’ve worked for Lowe’s for a long time and it sickens me to see the kind of behavior that’s happening in the stores. Apparently most of the district and regional managers are under the delusion that managing by threat and intimidation will produce results. It won’t.

Ignoring reality and expecting unrealistic results in this economic environment isn’t going to increase sales or make your LTR scores get any better. Expecting that kind of management style to do anything for you is a sign of pathetic desperation and short sighted idi0cy. The regional managers should be embarrassed by all of this but I’m sorry to report that they’re simply not intelligent enough to know this.

The driving reason for all of this is that Marvin Ellison has made a lot of promises in his statements to investors that simply aren’t realistic. He’s told them that the previous two years of windfall sales and profits will continue this year and into the next. In other words, he’s written a lot of checks that his a$$ can’t cash. So, as the obviousness of this reality becomes apparent even to him, it has created a vile environment of pressure on lower level managers to do something, anything to help drag Marvin’s bu-t from the fire. It’s also the reason they’ve been threatening everyone who gets overtime, why they’ve ben cracking down on basic supplies/expenses and bringing in products that make no sense for a home improvement retailer to carry. Marv’s desperate and it’s comically obvious. He has no real ideas of his own. All he does is copy Home Depot and that’s not going to fix the problem.

What should be happening is that Marv and his minions should be shipped back to JC Penney where they belong and Lowe’s should be refocusing on its core business but that would require someone with a spine and a brain, so good luck with that.

What IS going to happen is that Lowe’s is going to badly miss it’s targets for the following quarters and the rest of us are going to take the blame for it. District managers, store managers and ASMs are going to be walked out as the regional flunkies thrash around desperately to find away to make Marvs promises actually work. And since reality doesn’t work that way, I can safely predict choppy waters ahead. Good luck.
