I would like to get an offer from a direct competitor. Employees are more valued and respected there. But still, I think for those who have been here for a long time, despite everything, it is not easy to go to a competitor. How does it feel, those who went to direct competitors?

I left and went to a competitor. It feels great. I actually feel valued at the new company both financially and for my skillset. I wasn't unhappy while there but now that I have left and experienced a non-toxic culture, I wish I had left earlier than I did. Less stress, less worry about if I'm being RIF'ed this year or next year, and definitely less process garbage. Leaving Allstate was the best thing I could have done for my career and mental health.
It may takes some time (years in some cases) but all carriers will go down this same road. Shapiro is just really really good and speeding up the process from his past experiences. Liberty Mutual would not exist today had the not seen the light before The Butcher totally destroyed it. He was ousted before he got LiMu Emu to this point.
During my career I’ve had countless cases of the EC just simply “not believing” the injury I was cut way down. Cases that could have settled for 15k early on ended up settling for 50k and up.
So true! I had a case I could of settled for 90K couldn’t get the EXC to give me the additional 10K I needed. So guess what? The claimant got an attorney the pup was pierced and they got 1.25 mil. Brilliant folks. Waste of money. Get back on the line and settle some claims! And what’s even worse, these examples are never discussed! Happens a lot. Follow your cases and you will see.
The Evaluation Consultant position is a huge waste. What a useless group. They think they’re controlling severity lol. If anything their role has done the exact opposite.
I think it is perfectly reasonable to ask, at the end of a job interview, how will my performance be judged? And also ask if you would be expected to take inquiry calls. For BI adjusters, are there people like Evaluation Consultants? Those ECs were the Bane of my existence!
To me it really isn't the metrics themselves as I get there needs to be a level of accountability and goal. My issue with Allstate is how the constantly change and manipulate those metrics to unattainable in order to demoralize and set us up to fail. If they project a "it's never good enough" mindset it's easier to get people to just give up and leave and gives them an opening to chop headcount down at will.
At this point you must ask yourself what the benefits of staying at Allstate are. Are they any at all? Working remote maybe? For now? When is the next round of layoffs and will you get a good severance? Does AS offer any career advancement or promotions? How good is your manager and does he or she have your back!?
I went to another carrier and yes there are metrics but your rating is more based on QA (file quality) and how well you manage your workload (it’s way less than Allstate). Their recognition is usually a $50 or $100 gift card. They do incentive comp down to the desk level every year. They actually give you the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday like most normal companies. They meet with you to determine a career goal/path and encourage you to work towards that goal. They actually don’t want you sitting as a claim adjuster for 30 years. They constantly thank you and tell you you’re doing a good job. It was a real culture shock for sure!
You are a number buddy. The sooner you realize that and get the fu-k out of here the better off you’ll be. There’s nothing wrong with wanting high productivity but no one can exceed on it all unless they cheat. And they do cheat. All big companies are metric based. No escaping it. Just get out and save yourself from this bs
Too many analysts counting your moment to moment. Complete micromanagement at its finest. These analysts need to do real work on the phones with the complaining customers and claimants. They treat workers like bots. Soon there may be no beans left to count
When you do interview, is it okay to ask if a company is metric based performance based? I really don’t want I work for another company that does this as well as anything like the workflow tool.
Geico is very similar with metrics based performance expectations. I wouldn’t jump ship to go there unless you would be getting a very very large raise. Although I don’t think they are planning massive layoffs. Smaller insurers are the way to go.
Do not work for a stock company. I repeat. Do not work for a stock company. It will be the same maybe a bit better but basically the same as Allstate. Allstate is the worst by far. The $10 gift cards on applause are ridiculous. Check out the competitors bonus structure way before you interview. You should be getting 5-10k per year as a cash bonus. Not just as a 401k contribution. Go for a smaller mutual or fraternal carrier they care more about American employees and show it through perks and ideals not shipping jobs to foreign countries so the executives can get 6 to 7 figure bonuses every quarter. At least the mutual carriers give the workers a bigger slice of the bonus pie. Not a Walmart gift card for $10. Perhaps big blue should allow us to donate our applause points to a organization they like. That will be next.
