I started applying pretty much as soon as the news broke and now I have multiple offers. I would say all of them are lateral moves, none are an improvement. Is it too early to leave, should one avoid being reactionary and wait to see what happens or is it pretty much a matter of time before VMware is decimated?

There have been very few positive reviews about Broadcom as an employer. A leopard doesn’t change it’s spots so why would it be different for anyone moving to Broadcom? I’m waiting for a payout and hopefully the deal will take a while to close. The longer the better. In the meantime I still get paid and am getting more experience. Everyone has to make their own decisions based on their own circumstances.
I started interviewing almost two weeks prior to the announcement. Offers are starting to flow. Feel like I had a head start and will be leaving for a great company in 3 weeks.
We can’t control timing on these things. The market won’t bend to our timeframe. Just the opposite. Go now. You’re one of the lucky ones. Good luck.
I m entertaining couple offers right now (I was promoted to P5 but damn BC).
Start looking. NOW. Why? The economy is heading towards a recession, possibly a major one, and with that means its going to get a whole lot harder to find new jobs as companies slow down hiring. I HAD two interviews only to later to find out they had decided to cancel the role. It could very well take a year to find a new job.
Hate to sound negative this early in the week, but the answer is “it’s never too early to leave when Broadcom is involved”.
Definitely not too early. I started applying not long after, probably about a week after the formal announcement. I’m actually jealous that you already have offers. I’m still in process with a couple of companies, and a third decided not to move forward with me.
Lateral is fine, pick the best company or best offer and do it.
OP
@tzp+1hqGKkk8 no Broadcom is not an employer Im interested in, not one bit even if they will pay me twice as much. And 30% is definitely not a percentage Im willing to tolerate in terms of employment volatility and I havent been at VMware long enough to justify waiting for severance either.
It's a personal choice. Even pre Broadcom I would leave if a good opportunity presented itself. Lateral is fine if you have growth.
I left right before the Broadcom takeover news broke. I was in MAPBU and it was such a toxic, clueless, doomed place that I knew I needed to protect my future.
I haven't regretted the move one bit. Run from Vmware. It's over. Vmware is NOT going to get better.
Run, don’t walk.
Does Broadcom sound like a company you want to work for? If so, you probably have a 30% chance of being retained (assuming you are not in G&A).
This is a personal choice for everyone, but most people would not recommend Broadcom as an employer of choice. I will leave as soon as I can find an equal or better job. I have no intention of staying with them. I also don't look forward to a year of speculation and negativity and just want to move on.
