Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Infor walks away from I series on prem SW

This is a major announcement as Infor has 15% of the I series install base. That’s a lot of porting going on to Intel

I thought I would wait until Power 10 low end came out before I commented. After having read the announcement letters for P10 it’s obvious the Power leadership has forgotten what brought them to the dance (Value). Power has always been sold on delivering value vs the completion (primarily Intel). The P10 low end offerings make it impossible to justify pursuing the Power value delivery model vs just porting and embracing a commodity HW offering. I guess the Redhat SW distro is the new value delivery model for IBM. Put yourself in the Baan, Lawson, Mapics, etc etc user seat. Infor is telling you there is more value in porting your ISV SW and embracing Intel than there is in re-investing in your Power HW and SW infrastructure. It just goes to show that Intel has reached the good enough stage, and Linux is it’s value delivery code stack model.

IBM is a dying company. Give it 10-20 years and IBM will be no more. Whether it goes bankrupt, it is sold in pieces or it is acquired, it is a done deal.

Does anyone now doubt that IBM has abandoned the legacy install base. IBM Power execs had to have met with Infor execs to discuss Powers future. I guess Infor was not impressed with the Power cloud offerings as they decided to press ahead with Intel LINUX . When one of your largest ISV’s says goodbye, the writing is on the wall
