Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Crypto Crash

Looking back, WFC finally allowing wealthy clients to invest in crypto currency (one year ago) should have been a foreshadowing of crypto’s eventual crash.

Wells Fargo comes in at the tail-end of everything. Never a leader, always a follower. And always a day late and a dollar short.

I would like to propose a formula for investing which is almost GUARANTEED to be a success: Do the opposite of whatever Wells Fargo is doing.

WFC getting into crypto, you sell crypto. Charlie investing billions on corporate stock between $40 and $60., you short the stock and buy back at highly predictable lower prices. Wells Fargo “getting aggressive” in credit cards in late 2021 (wtf really?), you invest in emerging digital payment technology. WFC leadership investing in RTO and “butts in seats”, sell the stock and invest in companies who are looking forward rather than relying on outdated philosophies and technologies.

It’s worse than you know. The fund that was approved by WFII has gates and only allows quarterly liquidity. Even if you got in on April 2 and decided to get out early, you couldn’t.

The reasoning was that clients should only be making long-term investments in the space. However, crypto has a standard deviation of 89 whereas a S&P fund has a standard deviation of about 15. Why would anyone want to buy a more volatile investment with that kind of lock-up? All I can guess is that there was a very nice sales load for the brokers to peddle this cr-p.

OP, I completely agree! I can’t tell you how many times in the last six months I’ve heard on a call, “what are our competitors doing?” Now, I’d live to say that was just a good question where someone wanted to probe before making an informed choice but this is being asked about things regarding common sense type of issues or the first question should have been, what’s the best customer experience or how would I want this to work if WFC was my bank or was in reference to Russian sanctions. That last one ki---d me. We really couldn’t bother to have the guts to lead the charge there? Can we lead in any area? EVER? SMH! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Crypto isn’t real money, NFT’s aren’t real art, and Tamagachi pets aren’t real pets. 🤷🏻
