Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Nobody is taking measures to avoid contracting COVID-19 anymore

It's disheartening to have to deal with this again. People are still dying but nobody seems to care. Maybe I wouldn't care either if my wife wasn't in one of the high-risk groups. I guess that's where we are as people these days. If it doesn't affect us personally, nobody gives a damn. I have to work, though, so I don't have much choice but try my best to stay safe for her. I just wish people would be a bit more considerate of those around them.

OP such an effeminate and degenerate comment. People have always died. Everyone that ever lived died. Get off your phone and go for a walk and figure out how to get back to your basic human nature and find some courage while you're at it.

I also read that the vaccines are not effective against the new strain so forget that, but the symptoms are not as sever so that's a good thing. No real reason to be alarmed. Nothing to see here folks. Move along now.

The new varient is now so contingent that no mask can prevent its spread. Covid has evolved and will become a new norm like typical cold. To better protect yourself and loved ones who might have higher risk take booster and stay isolated.

Wow! Lots of censorship happening on this site.

You can stay home and isolate yourself from outside world instead of dragging the rest of the world to stop for you.

Yes, we've moved on from Covid. Now we worry more about Ukraine, Britney Spears and Britney Griner - just like Chevron worries more about diversity, trendy business phrases, and fringe networks more than growing its core business. We just had Covid go through our house (once one person gets it, everyone gets it). Not pleasant, but thank goodness for the vaccines and Paxlovid. Sorry to say, but it's inevitable.

COVID is no more. It did its intended job getting the clown we have installed into the Presidency. God save us now. I’d be willing to give up summer just to get to November already.

Yes, you are right that society has mostly moved on. Good news is that there are safe and effective vaccines and booster shots and antiviral therapy medicine available. Bad news is that as with every illness out there, there are some people who are more at risk than others. I’m sorry to hear that your wife is one of them. My advice is to talk to your supervisor and present your case for 100% work from home. There is still plenty of flexibility and latitude being offered if you show a compelling reason and you are a trustworthy performer. If the answer is no, well then there are plenty of other companies out there offering 100% remote jobs and best to act now while the job market is still very strong. Best of luck.

Yeah, our leaders can no longer talk about how sadety is so important and needs to be forefront. All while not wearing any mask. We TELL our field personnel to wear high end masks when they do at risk work. Why do they not even care enough to wear a mask to keep others safe.

In the end, I am just doing my best to keep safe. Do not come in unless I have to, wear a KN95 all day. Hide out like a hermit. Obviously it is super d-mb but I guarantee the return to work thing is tied to a CIP metric.

@tja+1hwE5vqr Sorry to hear that & hope you feel better soon.

Question: Chevron used to notify us about COVID cases at work but doesn’t anymore. Does anyone know why?

I recently contracted COVID19 at work (I don't go out anywhere else unless fully masked and at slow times). Was contracting COVID19 worth the "collaboration" I did that day? Absolutely not. My patience with this company is on thin ice. No longer is "safety" a real core value of this company.

I think we are the point of this pandemic where at-risk people have sufficient safeguards. Anyone at risk can get vaxxed and boosted. If you are still worried then wear an N-95 mask all the time and keep your distance from others. On top of that, we have several effective therapeutic options.

It is unreasonable to expect the entire world to continue wearing masks and social distance. We unfortunately do not live in a risk free world.

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling anxious for your family’s health, and I hope you fare well. It does seem like folks have completely thrown caution to the wind.

It’s almost like it would be a miracle if some sort of safe, effective antiviral that has been around for decades was available to be used early in the illness to help protect people.
