I expect a hiring freeze unless it critical role but honestly who would join anyway. People will start to slack off while they are looking for other jobs

The old school VMware people probably hope Mr G can come in on a
white horse and save the day

Mr. G, as you call him, is one of the main reasons we are in the state we are in.
There are no old school vmware people who revere him. There are some newer, younger people who have bought into the treacle-y cult of personality, however.

Nothing will happen on July 5th - absolutely nothing. No changes will occur until legal close, earliest November, latest sometime July 2023.

Both companies will meet and discuss transition plans between now and close. But nothing else will happen.

I think Broadcom will start to make their presence known more. They will start to dictate areas of interest and areas to stop working on. Some of this has already been visible and it will continue to be visible if your manager has any decency to be transparent.

What won’t be as visible is the business of who stays, who is transitional, and who is fired. Takeovers do not just “start” on the day of acquisition.

I doubt it will be a Big Bang on July 5th, but who knows. We know how the story will end, just a matter of time until we get there.

Former CA/Symantec employees are the best to answer this question however.

Nothing changes at all once the go shop period ends. No one else is coming forward to but the company for a greater offer than what Broadcom has on the table. No other company wants to cut the expenses they would need to offer more money and make this profitable. Broadcom has no issue cutting to the bone, but companies like Microsoft or Google would never do it, so we are stuck with Broadcom and what they will need to do to get to the EBITDA they committed in the press releases. The only benefit, those of us that want to leave have time to find a job, while we are still getting paid by VM.

Nothing really changes, I doubt anyone is coming in with a better offer under this “go shop” period. The old school VMware people probably hope Mr G can come in on a white horse and save the day, but I think he has enough of a problem to resolve in 1ntel as it is. Also, someone in theory, can still come in with an offer but the entry price has raised.

There’s a long way to go yet with potential risk and potential delays along the way.

I know some on here will disagree but I don’t believe they will be successful if they apply their CA/Symantec approach to VMware. That’s not to say they might not try to though!

There will likely be big cuts of course, but maybe not as stark as the doomsday merchants on here would like you to believe. However, it is still going to feel like a car crash.

Things like take a break, and epic days will go m, which gets back 9 days of work or 1.9 weeks which is a 3.5-6.0% efficiency alone, depending on how you look at it.

I think the only thing you can do is focus on what you can control. You can do your job well and cross your fingers you’ll be on the right side of the outcome that could mean staying or getting riffed, depending who you are. Or you can decide to prepare to leave, or just leave, but that’s not always a safer option, you can’t be sure that you’re not jumping in to another bag of problems in another company.

I would say don’t get dragged down to the level of the cynics on here. Keep your head up, this stuff happens every day and people survive to tell another tale. Heck, we had the February clear out every year and most people come out fine out of that, this time we have a notice period, that’s something…..

The execs and current tech leadership will continue to be unable to understand that they got us into this situation.
