Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Can I try and negotiate a raise for an internal transfer?

I've realized that with my current manager, there's no way I'll ever be promoted if I remain with my team. I do have a chance to transfer to another team within Dell and I'd like to take it but since the job comes with more responsibilities despite being a lateral move, I'm wondering if I should try and negotiate a raise? I don't want to mess up this opportunity, though, hence my reluctance.

Currently hiring freeze so nobody will be moving to any jobs.Th powers that be are in process of reviewing costs and cost structure.
Job reductions are always the easiest way to cut Dell costs

Data Protection is looking for some developers. Look at the job listings.

What can Apex do for you?

Yeah I was informed that Data Protection did not fit the model for Apex so job and 2 others in my group roles were deemed unnecessary.
My supervisor had no input was told let them go by Senior VP even though I worked with more than Data Protection as did the 2 others. It is just another spreadsheet management decision to reduce/eliminate and cut peoples jobs.

I was laid off in a principle engineering role. Was recently contacted to fill the same role but as a Sr. Engineer. Same work and expectations but much lower pay. So glad to be out of that sweat shop.

If it is lateral move at same pay grade classification, the 3 that I have had is they do not offer a pay increase.Especially if you are in the higher range of the pay band. Understand this is one cheap Company and always has been.
It is always about cost cutting and hiring the lowest cost personnel, the managers that I have interviewed with even though it is a lateral move almost choke when they discover (since I have been in the pay grade for a while) had several increases from the starting pay of that band the interview process pretty much stops and you do not hear anything more except that the hiring supervisor has decided to give the position to someone other than you.

Yes, you can. If the position is parallel (Just a tranfer not promotion) then it could be harder but you should still try. If it is a promotion then absolutely. And for the naysayers I know this from experience at Dell.

my suggestion, apply, then contact the hiring manager and just ask the question. worst they'll say is not right now.
