Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Who will come here now?

I believe that the challenge for HR is greater than ever because it is difficult to find replacements. Who would even consider coming here now?

lol “playing around with their career”. It’s a JOB. There are hundreds of thousands of great jobs out there. Good thing none of you mo--ns would be interviewing people who joined VMware after the announcement. This is a strategic play and a smart one because again, you have no idea whose being axed and whose not. I’d be happy to work for Broadcom if my position is kept. I’ll be happy to work elsewhere if I’m cut. Those who get ahead, get ahead. Those who don’t, don’t. The biggest rewards are given to the ones who take risks during unsure times. Now I’m going to enjoy my fat paycheck and work my bu-t off for this company, unlike some of you who aren’t doing anything because you’re soiling your pants in fear. Anon downvotes encouraged.

People with less then 1 year of service will get a minimum severance offer and if the WARN act is triggered (which it most likely will be), will get a minimum of two months pay for everyone regardless of tenure.

It’s amazing to see people playing around with their career like it’s a joke, joining a company that might be decimated in months. Having VMware is good, but it’s not worth playing around with your career like that

You wont get a cash out if you are terminated after 6 months. Severance is usually on weeks for every year of employment basis if you have been there for a year or less you are getting a pack of milky ways if you lucky

If I am interviewing people, and they tell me they joined VMWare after the acquisition was announced, I would question them. It may not be a reason to NOT hire someone, but it would make me question their intelligence. In High-Tech having Broadcom on a resume is not a positive, joining a company being acquired by Broadcom just doesn't really make sense, but as one of the posters said earlier, if they are getting a large increase to join VMW, perhaps it may work out for them, I hope it does.

VMware HR is only concerned with reaching their DEI goals. They will hire anyone and overpay them as long as they fit a DEI category. Of course these people won't know what they are doing once they get to VMware but HR doesn't care. The value of VMware on your resume is going down, way down.

By the prior comments it appears the only way vmw is hiring is by extremely overpaying people who are d-mb enough to think the vmw brand means that much and being laid off is cool for some reason lol

I just accepted an offer to join VMWARE recently and leaving a current similar type employer to do so. I agree with the other fellow in this thread, if I get cut 6-18 months down the road then I will perhaps get a cash out and have another great company on the resume. And let me tell you…. the offer from VMware was AMAZING. They are more then making it worth my time to leave my stable well paid job to come join.

Currently interviewing right now and still employed at another company. This would be the best money I’ve ever made and if I get laid off in a few months - year, I’ll have vmware on my resume and can make the jump to an even better company

The goal is not to replace people during this time. The only people that would join us are people that are current unemployed. No one would give up a job to join the uncertainty here. CA stopped hiring once the acquisition was announced. The goal was to get the headcount down. This is the same thing we will do, no point in filling jobs that won’t make the cut anyway.
