The voluntary program last year was limited. Many positions that the company didn't want to lose last year are no longer needed. Projects were completed, or moved to Mexico. A broader voluntary offer this year will get people off the fence.

I don’t think they know what they’re really cutting yet. Want heads out. Still want work done. What a quandary. They’ll likely be left with the yes men staring at each other wondering what to do next. Sh-t show in the making.

The reason for the secrecy, is there is a secret... shhh. there are no job "cuts". The jobs will just be moved out of the US, and or go to full-service suppliers.

Right. it’s been almost 2 weeks since the news broke. Shouldn’t there have been a statement as a professional courtesy letting their employees know that they would have the information they need say by mid August for example?
Instead secrecy. Yet, the company announced early in the year that they would be doing more cuts later, so they have a plan. Perhaps their plan was to wait right to the end of the year then cut. I appreciate the leak.

If it is to be believed that October(widely rumored) is the month for big departures then it would make sense for F to begin rolling out ‘their plan’ in earnest two months prior.

Why? Because voluntaries are smart fist step due to optics/public opinion and it takes a bit of time to work through the F retirement system. Add one month for fence-sitters to decide and for folks to seek financial council.

Assuming reduction targets following voluntaries wont be met, then begins in-voluntaries to accomplish their target.

Who knows. Maybe they intend to work everyone right up to the end of the year.

It will depend on your area. There has been confirmed cutbacks for IT. For Marketing and Sales all market areas are have All Employee meetings the week of August 15th. It is expected the layoffs and reorganization will happen then.
