Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford will never be what it once was

The world has changed too much, especially the corporate world that has morphed into a distorted version of itself that doesn't give a fu-k about employees and only bows to the almighty dollar. I'm not saying profit shouldn't be the goal, but profit at all cost has destroyed what was once a company that functioned more like a family than a workplace that I was proud to work for. There's no going back to that time. I have two years to retire and if I make it, I'll be happy to be gone.

When I was hired in 1985 as an Engineer and followed in my fathers path up from a line woker…. I bleed Blue. When they spun us off as Visteon, canceled my pension, then spun me back….. all I bleed then was green

The Blue was all gone when the family filed for divorce. I get it; but didn’t smell the coffee until 2008 till now

Not the same Company my old man retired from, nor the same Company I started with

I left in 2018 and have never looked back at the auto industry other than to see my ole friends continue the long drawn out divorce of their own

Ah yes, blame the media and sprinkle in some right-wing dog whistle buzzwords. The company's desire to treat all people with respect even when some social conservatives are he'll bent on banishing them to he-l isn't the reason the company is in decline.

I would say one of the key reasons is that the company has been too nice to the employees over the years. There is no consequence for slacking off, which translates to little incentive for working hard. Good companies need to cull the heard periodically. Not Jac Nasser style, but we shouldn't keep low performers around just to be nice.

@OP+1i2jDLnW : the problem is, its not "profit at all cost" now ... if it was, you would see competence at every level, instead of buffoonery and politics and slackers and friends n' family. if it was profit at all cost, ford would be a fun place to work and you would be paid handsomely and tesla would have never gotten ahead of us.

The 30 and out mentality created some dedicated employees that were in for the long haul. The GRP employees only represent 1/3 of the ranks at Ford. There is nothing keeping the other 2/3 from staying for that carrot. I don't think Ford realized the social cost of stopping the GRP in 2004. Engineers with more than 25 years are rightfully scared as they were always told to do your work and you will be rewarded. You realize if you miss your 30yr mark by one day the financial impact is huge. I have a feeling the GRP will be revised next year and converted to a lump sum and deposited into your existing 401Ks... GM did it...

I was so proud when I was hired by Ford. An American car company that (in my mind) had a rich history and patriotic values. When the company celebrated its 100th anniversary, our while family attended the celebration proudly. I was a third generation Ford employee and I loved working there.

In 30 years, so much has changed. Now the place is a soulless factory of human misery run by incompetents. Starting right at the top with Billy the Buffoon and his toady, Farley. The company will never be the same and is on it’s way out. Eventually, Ford will be bought by another car company. Yesterday, I visited the Henry Ford and rode in an authentic Model T. What a great experience. Too bad the company’s best years are shrinking in the rear view mirror.

Yes, essentially we're working and breaking our backs so that a bunch of lazy d3generates can impose their agenda on us. Don't tell me we have the power to change things, it takes a majority for that, and if the majority is not eroding on its own, the voting machines will take care of it.

Agree in principle, disagree with the reasoning. The problem with the corporate world today is the expectation you'll support woke political agendas. The almighty dollar is less important to CEOs and executives as hobnobbing with celebrities and being pumped on social media for trying to save the planet, support alternative lifestyles, and drinking the media's Kool aid.

Sad world we live in.....
