Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Where do we go from here?

I think was a clear strategy not to inform anyone, least of all the employees, about the cutbacks in workforce this week.

Which makes me wonder about what else they have decided to withhold information about, like what is the future for O.

I see a major pivot coming up in our business model. You don't buy an acquisition (Cerner) for $28 B unless you have very, very major plans ahead. This was biggest acquisition by far that O has ever done, and also the biggest acquisition last year in tech, and in general one of the biggest acquisitions in the tech space in sometime.

I think it's clear that O is launching itself into the health technology world in a very big way.

They want to leave one very competitive and low margin space behind and enter into a brand new frontier where we will sell Healthcare Technology vs Healthcare services as our major product offering. And don't expect them to tell anybody anything about their plans, because for the moment we are still needed - but what is happening this week is a sign of things to come.

Larry said a few weeks ago that he has a grand plan to have a huge, Big Brother healthcare database offering. HIPPA be damned, just get people to scroll through 700 pages of disclaimer and click "I Agree", and Voila! Your entire health history is shared with anyone with whom Oracle wants to share it. Governments, pharma companies, police, the Republican Party, anyone. After all, Oracle will own the data, not you.

Scary. Anything is possible when people aren't paying attention.

Oracle will never explain anything to employees. Get out of there.

The Cerner/ VA is much more than a boondoggle.....check out this link:

This is what happens when you jump into waters you know nothing about. As the author on this post points out we spent huge money on this acquisition and we haven't yet paid the full price.

Oracle is now a healthcare data company that also happens to sell business applications. Whereas OCI, HCM, ERP, SCM, Analytics, and pillar technologies used to be the darlings, they are no longer.

And while O is positioned with their acquisition of Cerner, they don't have that much thought leadership in the arena. Plus, they just acquired the boondoggle of a VA contract. They are already starting 10 steps back.

And it will run on Exadata. I can see the presentation now.

In my 10+ years at O, I have never seen an announcement of a layoff. Nothing new.
