Oracle people have to worry about layoffs constantly and especially that once a year big one. You are going to be overworked which you mind but can tolerate if there would be a reward for doing so. Most and especially within the sales areas are concerned with getting fired or let go all the time. Bonuses for most don't reflect the contribution and pay raises are non-existent for most.
What will take awhile is getting over these and other things that kept you on the edge and really reaching what you really could. Most people lose their motivation after awhile of witnessing what does it matter? Your layoff when it comes will likely be brief and impersonal. It doesn't matter what you think your relationships might be. When its time they will treat you like fe--s they stepped in. They like to replenish with younger people because they have not figured it totally out yet. However, I can attest that the ones I know who were really good left. Within 2 years they had enough. For those that hang around more with the hope that something will change, you almost need therapy to not have the lingering effect from Oracle impact you.
If you can pull it off financially, I would urge people who are stressed out to leave and never look back. Even if you have to do something totally different, you will be happy. People might think I am being negative and I guess in a way I am. I have not worked with anyone worth their salt that wanted to stay longer than 3-4 years and it is telling when the long timers with 10+ years recognize it is time to go. I think Oracle lasts but it will not be a place to be if you have options. Just going to keep making money off existing licenses, figure out how to force or manipulate customers into OCI - and some never use it - and make you feel that it is your fault they salted the customer base with their tactics. People are not even choosing Oracle Database when they have other options. Good luck to those who stay blind and for those who make a move before Oracle does - and they will - go enjoy life.
