Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Can’t lateral into a higher position

Apparently there’s some archaic HR rule that you can’t switch into a higher level position until you’re promoted to that position. Even if you are qualified. While HR and the managers from both teams argue it out, the person has already left for a bigger tech company with less nonsense.

They definitely care if people leave, they just don’t know what to do about it. They care because it impacts their bottom line as it costs a lot of money to actually recruit and hire someone. Their turnover is well above average. If they didn’t care, they wouldn’t setup multiple exit interviews with HR. They are a data driven company and trying to figure out how to stop the hemorrhaging. It’s not only bad there, it’s getting worse. Talent is flying out the door.

I can assure you the company and leadership could care less about somebody leaving. I think many of the folks who work at Capital One feel they are irreplaceable. No shortage of hubris here. As I was once told by one of the folks high up the food chain, we don't need you, we don't need me. If you leave, you are not getting even, you are just moving on with your career and there are 5 more who will eagerly take your place.
