Things are going great, the management is saying we're safe, and yet everybody is still worried about layoffs and wondering when the axe is going to fall. Can't you enjoy a good thing when you see it? There'll be plenty of time to worry about layoffs in the future, but we're in the good part of the cycle now so enjoy it while you can!

OP, Chevron employees haven't had a sustained "good times" since 2011-2013 (If you want to call a couple years "sustained"). We've had to worry about every 2 or 3 year layoffs since 1986!
With the track record of our executive management it doesn't matter if times are good they are looking to do layoffs while taking huge bonuses and pay for themselves.
With inflation and high interest rates and declining oil prices, I am not sure how we can call it good tines, WTI is now under $90 and will be declining more in coming weeks. Wait until it goes under $60 which will be around new year!
The only time I worry about layoffs is when management says layoffs are coming and when they deny they are coming. I really can't focus on work much since 2016.
General uncertainty about the future coupled with rising inflation and a lack of management willingness to share the wealth during the good times while expecting to show no mercy cutting heads the moment oil prices show any signs of a drop (have you noticed lately)? It’s watching the company slowly wither away and being a shell of its former self. It’s watching D&I woke policies, politics and favoritism replace The Chevron Way while opportunities for growth disappear and the list goes on. Nothing to be content about in these times.
OP….maybe it’s that management has said it before and had layoffs anyway. Maybe people don’t have any faith in what management says. I know I don’t.
