Thread regarding 3M layoffs

What are employees doing with their 3M shares

What is the plan ?

  1. Sell now at a loss or minimum or moderate profit
  1. Hold on to it and see what happens in a few years
  1. Buy more while price is at multi year lows

What is the best case scenario and the worst case scenario here? Will the stock price ever recover from this quagmire ?

Two months ago my retirement acct was hemorrhaging. Met with our financial advisor and she said I was too heavily loaded with 3M. I dumped all that I could and I’ve been seeing more green than red now. Yes I took a hit but over the next 12 years I get to claim those losses on my tax return. Glad 1/2 of what I had was in RSUs. I know everyone thought I was nuts when I went RSU route on half my shares.

I dumped what I could over a month ago. My financial advisor was happy we did that. She said we were "too heavily loaded with 3M." Also glad 1/2 of my shares were in RSUs, which was good. Oh, and as of yesterday, I was laid off.

I stopped my ESPP purchases and will be slowly selling all I have in the near term once the holding period is complete. I would like to buy back in via the ESPP at some point, but waiting for 2 things to happen.

  1. Litigation (earplugs) is finally complete or there is clarity on the process. Whether they settle, get the go ahead for the bankruptcy play, or fight. The uncertainty ki--s the stock price. PFAS will be a different animal all together as it will most likely be settlements with local governments.
  1. The dividend must remain intact. Not cut, not suspended, but intact. I expect the dividend to naturally decrease with the HC spinoff, but I expect them to pay a divy as well to be made whole.

Only once these issues are addressed will I begin to buy again via the ESPP.
