Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Plan for the future apparently doesn’t require wngineers

If we have such a bright future capturing carbon and such then why are we reducing headcount so drastically? I thought a growing company was a sign of winning not continual headcount reductions. Hard to get that next promotion when the company is shrinking.

@OP The engineers you’re referring to are all over 100 years old and haven’t actually engineered anything for decades.

Engineering in O&G is looking up standards (typically paywalled), picking a vendor who has the part that meets the standard, and holding a few calls over a few months while the part gets shipped to a shop and installed (usually incorrectly), so that it can break again in six months and the whole process can begin anew.

Of course after it breaks yet again you have to call in one of the hundreds of incompetent grifters (sorry, “consultants”), who take a little data, look up the same standards, cut/paste some PPT slides, and act as if they’re god’s gift to humanity for doing so, all while charging god-like hourly rates. Why not just rub some snake oil on the valve?

The entire industry needs a serious dose of realism at all levels.

Why would you need engineers, who can not even spell engineer......

These bunch of bozos at LCS that will believe anything 3rd party vendors will tell them. No competencies. All talk about “strategy” but no ability to execute.

As far as carbon capture technology, the company got nothing. The experience required to do CCS is all gone.

Better off if they PIP all the know-nothing brown nosers from LCS. Save those who are actually working to jeop this company running.

Exactly that... And it is equipment / materials heavy versus downstream cost and resources drivers. Employee need declines.

LCS is a business unit managing Contractor work. We don't actually do anything or design anything. Don't need too many people supervising them.
