I work in the waaaaaay upstream in one of those departments that puts holes in the ground and then puts things in those holes. After a looooooong dry spell, competitor O&G company recruiters (HR employees, not headhunters or consultanting companys) have been hitting me and my colleagues up heavily in the past few weeks.
If XOM is planning some nice raises in January I suggest they at least communicate those to us ASAP. Once a respectable offer comes along its BYE FELICIA.......
To realdriller, It is likely that during a downturn the newest hires might be let go first, but how would this be any worse than staying at Exxon where we are actively PIP’ing the last few years to save on severance and giving bad raises to increase more attrition?

If you get an offer from another operator then go ahead and leave right away because Exxon will come nowhere close to any of the offers I've heard from people that have already left. You don't want to accept Exxon's counter offer..if any. Good luck you you and congratulations when that happens.
